The earning potential of a woman is often directly proportional to her age. The older she gets, the tougher it is to get a higher income. However, there is still other ways to solve this problem. Some use further education and trainings as leverages. That’s where AARP Women’s Scholarship Program and the Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarships are helpful.

The AARP Women’s Scholarship Program is awarded to women ages 40 and up. Priority is generally given to women who are jobless for more than five years, have low income, no health insurance or health benefits, and are responsible for the children of a family member. This program aims to aid women who wish to advance their education and acquire new occupation training and skills.

The awarding of the AARP Women’s Scholarship is based on the demonstrated financial need of the applicants. The committee also takes into consideration the applicant’s accomplishments, academic aspirations, and individual situation. The scholarship money can be used for paying the tuition, books, and certain school fees of the students.

The Jeanette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Fund is awarded to a low-income woman (35 and up) who is studying in, or gained acceptance from, any ACICS or regional certified school. She should also be enrolled in a first bachelor’s degree, an associate’s degree, or a vocational course. A U.S. citizenship is needed to qualify.

If you’re Hispanic, and you’re looking for money for school, then you should apply for the different scholarship programs offered by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. They’re one of the largest sources for education financial aid that’s backed-up by big industry names, like Wal-Mart, Procter, and McDonalds. The amount of scholarship money ranges from $1,000-$15,000.

Each foundation has varied screening criteria for awarding a scholarship. In general, they require students to show excellent academic status, a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a specific approved course, and must be part of a minority group. It’s not absolutely necessary that a student live in the United States.

Education can be accessible if you just explore your other options. There are plenty of scholarship funds out there that aim to help women belonging to the different ethnic or underrepresented groups. If you’re one of them, be sure to take advantage of minority women scholarships.
