Do Uncertified Student Loans Really Exist?
Uncertified student loans are really in demand these days. After all, with these types of college education loans, there’s no need for schools to verify whether the amount being borrowed corresponds to the total cost of attendance or not. But the real question is: do uncertified student loans really exist?
Uncertified student loans are normally issued by non-government lending institutions. These are credit-based, and allow students to borrow amounts equal to the total cost of their school education. In most cases, students use certified or uncertified student loans in order to pay for the entire cost of their college education, which can’t be solely funded by other federal loan programs. Most reputable lenders will always require a school certification before disbursing funds. This is to make sure that the amount being borrowed does not exceed the school’s yearly cost of attendance, which is determined by the school financial aid office. By contacting your school, they can quickly verify your current enrollment status. Maximum loan limits vary for each lending institution. But students are generally allowed to borrow up to the cost of education, minus other financial assistance. However, it should not exceed the amount set by the school. A cosigner is not really required, but it would be helpful if you can present one. The start of the payback period depends on the type of loan and plan you’ve selected. You can choose to repay the full amount (or interest only) 60 days after the final disbursement of funds; or you could also postpone it, so you only have to start paying 6 months after you’ve graduated or left school. There are several reasons why a certified student loan is highly favorable. Firstly, most legit lenders offer this. Secondly, it discourages students from over-borrowing and to use the funds correctly. Thirdly, it has a faster approval time compared to federal student loans—you only need to be creditworthy and meet certain criteria in order to qualify. It is generally recommended to steer clear of uncertified student loans. Aside from the fact that they tend to be abused by many students, they also give rise to many scammers out there. Besides, it is very hard to find a good number of reputable lending companies that offer loans without a school certification. Although they are very tough to find, there are still lenders out there that offer their own uncertified student loan programs. Take Wells Fargo as an example. Their Wells Fargo Education Connection Loan and Wells Fargo Student Loan for Parents do not include a school certification in their qualification requirements. In the end, it’s really up to you whether you should go for student loans without school certification or not. What’s more important is to be a responsible borrower by using your funds properly and pay back your loan as agreed. Uncertified student loans do exist, but they’re certainly not your only options.
